People In White offers up a different point of view than most mental health films, true life stories of a group of patients past experiences with mental health professionals. These stories are often horrific and in this film the patients don’t just tell their stories, they re-enact them for and with each other. One by one they talk about their therapists, therapy methods, mental hospitals, isolation cells, abuse, neglect, anger, shame and humiliation. Relationships between doctors and patients are complex however, these survivors experiences paint a picture more like a prison than a hospital. The film is an eye opening exploration of a flawed mental health system.
